Project cargo for heavy-lift and out-of-gauge loads
For cargo that does not fit a standard truck or container, one team prepares the route survey, permits, escort and loading plan, and coordinates the move from start to finish.
Every project load needs its own plan
For heavy and out-of-gauge cargo such as machinery, plant equipment or structural elements, a standard price list does not work. Dimensions, weight, bridges, tunnels and road restrictions along the way are assessed separately for every move.
Starting from the technical data of your cargo, ViaNova carries out the route survey, coordinates the special permits and escort services, and combines road and sea legs in a single operating plan.
Our project cargo services
From feasibility to delivery on site, every stage of your project cargo follows a plan.
- Route survey
- Bridges, tunnels, bends and road restrictions along the route are checked before the move.
- Permits and escort
- Out-of-gauge transport permits and the required escorts are coordinated with the authorities concerned.
- Loading and handling
- Crane and special equipment needs are defined together with the loading and unloading plan.
- Specialised road transport
- Road transport on vehicles suited to the load, such as low-bed and extendable trailers.
- Multimodal planning
- Road and sea connections are combined in one operating plan.
- Customs and documents
- Export, import and transit formalities are handled by our own customs team.
How it works
From your request to delivery, the process has four steps.
- Technical data Send us the dimensions, weight, centre of gravity, origin and destination of the cargo.
- Survey and plan The route is surveyed; vehicles, equipment, permits and escorts are defined and a quote is prepared.
- Permits and preparation Permits are obtained, and the loading date and equipment plan are confirmed.
- Transport and delivery The cargo moves along the planned route and is delivered on site; its status can be followed online.
Typical project cargo
Load types commonly found in energy, infrastructure and industrial projects.
- Industrial machinery. Presses, machine tools and production-line equipment.
- Energy equipment. Transformers, generators and turbine components.
- Steel structures. Beams, columns and long structural elements.
- Construction machinery. Excavators, cranes and other self-propelled machines.
- Tanks and pressure vessels. Large-diameter, bulky plant equipment.
- Plant relocations. Moving dismantled production equipment as one project.
Frequently asked questions
What is out-of-gauge cargo?
Cargo whose dimensions or weight exceed standard road limits. It needs special vehicles, permits and often an escort, and the route is planned accordingly.
Why is a route survey needed?
Obstacles such as bridge heights, load limits, tight bends or roadworks must not come as a surprise on the day of the move. A route survey identifies these risks in advance and determines a suitable route.
What do you need for a quote?
The cargo’s dimensions (length, width, height) and weight, a technical drawing or photo if possible, the loading and delivery points and the target date. We reply by e-mail within 24 hours; for loads that need a route survey, the final price is confirmed after the survey.
Can project cargo also travel by sea?
Yes. Where needed, we prepare a multimodal plan combining road and sea legs and include port operations in the transport plan.
